Delicate, melancholic Polish alternative rock featuring a signature boyish falsetto and lush, cinematic arrangements. Perfect for introspective rainy afternoons.
Artur Rojek creates a soundscape that feels like a long, thoughtful walk through a gray but beautiful city. His music is defined by a deep, pervasive sense of 'żal' - a specific Polish brand of melancholic longing - yet it never feels heavy or abrasive. Instead, it is airy and luminous, often anchored by shimmering guitars and elegant piano melodies that swell into grand, orchestral climaxes.
What truly sets Rojek apart is his vocal delivery. He possesses a high, fragile tenor that frequently glides into a crystalline falsetto, lending his songs an almost childlike vulnerability. This tenderness is contrasted by sophisticated production that draws from 90s British guitar pop and modern art-pop, creating a texture that is both nostalgic for the past and sharply contemporary.
For those new to his work, his solo debut is the essential entry point. It captures the transition from his legendary rock band past into a more personal, experimental space. Listen for the way he uses silence and space as much as sound, making every lyrical revelation feel like a whispered secret shared just with you.
Artur Marcin Rojek (born 6 May 1972) is the former guitarist and lead singer of the Polish alternative rock group Myslovitz. He and the lead guitarist Wojciech Powaga founded the Mysłowice-based group in 1992. He was also the guitarist, vocalist, and main songwriter for the dream pop band Lenny Valentino, which formed in 1998 and disbanded in 2001. He is the artistic director of Off Festival, an annual music festival established in 2006, which was held in his hometown Mysłowice until 2009. Now the festival takes place in Katowice. On 20 April 2012, Myslovitz informed about Rojek's departure in an official message signed by all members of the group. In April 2014, Rojek released his debut solo album, Składam się z ciągłych powtórzeń. Of his early trajectory, Rojek states, "I started my musical adventure with OMD. Then there were early U2 records and first guitar UK bands, like [the] Housemartins." He has also namechecked the House of Love, the Stone Roses, Ride, the High, the Boo Radleys and Galaxie 500.
