Arcadea

Aggressive, guitar-free synth metal driven by frantic polyrhythmic drumming and cosmic sci-fi narratives. It is heavy music for the deep space age.

Intro

Arcadea sounds like a collision between a vintage 1970s progressive rock keyboard solo and a modern technical metal rhythm section. By stripping away guitars entirely, the band creates a dense, vibrating wall of sound built from oscillating synthesizers and distorted moogs that feel both ancient and futuristic. The percussion is relentless, providing a mechanical yet organic heart that keeps the cosmic chaos grounded.

What truly distinguishes this project is the commitment to the 'space wizard' aesthetic without falling into kitsch. The interplay between the three vocalists creates a choral, almost ritualistic quality that floats above the jagged synth lines. It captures the specific feeling of early Genesis or Stevie Wonder's keyboard experiments but pushes them through a heavy, Relapse Records-approved filter of intensity and grit.

Start with their self-titled debut album to experience the full scope of their world-building. It is the perfect entry point for listeners who love the technicality of Mastodon but want to hear what happens when those same sensibilities are applied to a purely electronic, psychedelic landscape.

Arcadea is an American synth-metal supergroup from Atlanta, formed in 2015 by Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor, and Gaylord guitarist Core Atoms. Arcadea has released two albums on Relapse Records: their self-titled debut, Arcadea, in June 2017, and their follow-up The Exodus of Gravity, in August 2025.
