Antipole

Antipole is the primary creative vehicle for Norwegian musician Karl Morten Dahl, based in Trondheim. Since its inception in 2013, the project has become a cornerstone of the modern European coldwave and post-punk revival.

Dahl's sound identity is defined by a specific 'Northern' aesthetic: minimalist, melodic, and atmospheric. His guitar work heavily utilizes modulation effects - specifically chorus and delay - to create a signature 'shimmer' that references the early 1980s Factory Records roster while maintaining a contemporary hi-fi sheen. Antipole is notably collaborative, frequently working with UK producer and vocalist Paris Alexander, as well as artists like Kill Shelter and Eirene. This collaborative spirit extends to a massive remix catalog, where Dahl has reimagined works for genre leaders like She Past Away and Clan of Xymox. Critically, Antipole is praised for avoiding the 'lo-fi' tropes of the genre in favor of sophisticated, layered arrangements that emphasize melody over noise.
