Shattering, operatic vocals floating over cold electronic landscapes. A powerful collision of soulful vulnerability and urgent political defiance.
ANOHNI creates music that feels like a beautiful, terrifying wake-up call. Her sound is defined by one of the most distinctive voices in modern music: a rich, androgynous vibrato that carries the weight of classical tragedy and the soul of gospel. Whether she is backed by a minimalist piano or a crushing wall of electronic sub-bass, the emotional stakes are always at their absolute peak.
What makes her truly unique is the juxtaposition of that vulnerable, human voice against cold, synthetic production. She uses the language of pop and dance music to deliver uncompromising messages about surveillance, environmental collapse, and global conflict. It is music that refuses to let the listener look away, turning the dance floor into a site of deep moral and emotional reckoning.
Start with the album HOPELESSNESS. It is the definitive bridge between her chamber-pop roots and her electronic evolution, featuring production from Oneohtrix Point Never and Hudson Mohawke that perfectly frames her urgent, haunting calls for change.
