Polished Italian pop that balances dramatic Sanremo-style ballads with modern rhythmic energy. Powerful vocals meet Mediterranean soul for a classic, emotive experience.
Anna Tatangelo’s music is the sonic equivalent of a high-gloss Italian fashion magazine: sophisticated, impeccably produced, and unapologetically dramatic. Her sound is anchored by a powerful, agile soprano that can shift from a vulnerable whisper to a glass-shattering belt within a single chorus. It is music that feels deeply rooted in the Mediterranean tradition of melodic storytelling, where every emotion is amplified by lush string arrangements and crisp, modern percussion.
What truly sets her apart is the intersection of her 'girl next door' origins with a fierce, thematic focus on womanhood. While her early work leaned into the neomelodic influences of her long-time collaborator Gigi D'Alessio, her later catalog evolved into a more refined blend of Europop and contemporary R&B. She has a unique ability to tackle heavy social themes like homophobia and female empowerment without losing the infectious, radio-ready sheen that made her a household name.
For those new to her work, the best entry point is her mid-2000s peak. Start with the anthemic 'Essere una donna' to hear her vocal power at its most defiant, then move to 'Ragazza di periferia' for a taste of the melodic charm that first captured the Italian public's heart. It is the perfect soundtrack for moments that require both emotional release and a touch of glamour.
Anna Tatangelo (born 9 January 1987) is an Italian pop singer and television personality. At the age of 15, she became the youngest person to win the Newcomer's Award at the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival singing contest. Her repertoire consists mainly of pop music with slight influences of neo-melodic in some of the songs composed for her by singer Gigi D'Alessio, but also in the fifth fusion albums Progetto B. She confronted several social issues and current affairs, such as the empowerment of women, homophobia, anorexia and violence against women. Since 2007 she also wrote some songs. She participated in the Sanremo Music Festival six times in ten years, winning in 2002 with the song "Doppiamente fragile" and getting on the podium three more times: in 2005, when she came third in the category "Women" with "Ragazza di periferia", in 2006, when she came third overall and first in the women category with "Essere una donna" and in 2008 when, with the song "Il mio amico", she has reached the second position. The last was in 2011 with the song "Bastardo". She has been in a romantic relationship with the singer Gigi D'Alessio from February 2005 to March 2020. Up to date she has sold nearly 1 million copies worldwide.
