Amari

Amari is a pivotal collective in the Italian indie scene, formed in 1997 in Friuli. Originally emerging as a hip-hop duo (Pasta and Dariella) focused on teenage angst, they quickly evolved into a multi-instrumental quartet that pioneered a genre-blurring aesthetic often termed 'wrong pop.'

Their signing to Riotmaker Records in 2000 marked a turning point, positioning them at the center of a burgeoning alternative movement in Italy that sought to merge the sampling culture of rap with the melodic sensibilities of indie rock and electronic music. Their career arc is defined by a move from the dark, psychedelic hip-hop of 'Corporali' (2000) toward the more melodic, though still experimental, pop of 'Apotheke' (2002) and the critically acclaimed 'Grand Master Mogol' (2005). Culturally, they represent the 'Riotmaker sound,' a specific era of Italian music that prioritized DIY ethics and stylistic cross-pollination.
