Intro

Adrian Gurvitz occupies a unique space where high-level guitar technicality meets the smooth, unapologetic romance of eighties soft rock. His music often feels like a velvet curtain; it is rich, heavy with sentiment, and meticulously arranged. While he is most famous for the quintessential ballad 'Classic,' his sound is underpinned by a musician's musician sensibility, featuring melodic structures that are far more complex than the average pop hit of the era.

What truly distinguishes Gurvitz is the contrast between his early career as a hard rock pioneer and his later solo work. You can hear the ghost of a guitar hero in the way he phrases his solos, even in the middle of a synth-heavy pop track. There is a specific 'expensive' quality to his production - think shimmering keyboards, tight percussion, and a vocal style that is both intimate and grandly theatrical.

Start with the album 'Classic' to understand his peak pop era. It serves as a perfect entry point for anyone who loves the sophisticated adult contemporary sounds of the early 80s, offering a blend of soulful yearning and impeccable studio craft. It is music designed for moments of reflection and quiet connection.

Adrian Israel Gurvitz (; born 26 June 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. His prolific songwriting ability has gained him hits with Eddie Money's No. 1 Billboard Mainstream Rock hit "The Love in Your Eyes" and with his own song "Classic", a No. 8 UK hit single, as well as the top 10 UK Rock Chart single "Race with the Devil", with his band the Gun. He also co-wrote the track "Even If My Heart Would Break" from the Grammy Award-winning soundtrack The Bodyguard. His early bands the Gun, Three Man Army and the Baker Gurvitz Army were major influences to the first wave of the British hard rock circuit. Gurvitz also gained notability as a lead guitarist, known for his intricate, hard-driving solos. Gurvitz was placed at No. 9 by Chris Welch of Melody Maker’s "Best Guitarists in the World" list.
