Addison Groove

Addison Groove is the primary alias of Bristol-based producer Tony Williams, formerly known as the dubstep pioneer Headhunter. His transition to the Addison Groove moniker marked a pivotal moment in electronic music history, as he became the key bridge between the UK bass scene and Chicago's juke/footwork culture.

His 2010 single 'Foot Crab' is widely credited with introducing the 160 BPM Chicago sound to European audiences, albeit recontextualized through a UK lens of sub-bass and sound system pressure. His work on labels like Swamp 81, 50Weapons, and Tectonic showcases a career-long obsession with the 808 drum machine, often performing live sets featuring the hardware. Critically, he is viewed as a technical virtuoso who avoided the 'bro-step' commercialization of his era by leaning into syncopation and minimalist funk. His influence is seen in the 'techno-juke' crossover movement, paving the way for artists like Om Unit and the broader UK Bass continuum. He remains a central figure in the Bristol scene, collaborating with legends like DJ Die and continuing to evolve his sound toward jungle and electro-inflected club music.
