High-octane British thrash that refuses to take itself too seriously. Aggressive riffs meet a sarcastic, punk-infused edge for maximum mosh pit energy.
Acid Reign emerged as a leading light in the UK thrash metal scene of the late 1980s, often associated with the 'Big Four' of British thrash alongside Onslaught, Sabbat, and Xentrix. Formed in 1985, their sound was heavily influenced by the US crossover movement, blending the technicality of bands like Exodus and Nuclear Assault with the raw, irreverent energy of hardcore punk.
Their early work, specifically the Moshkinstein EP and their debut full-length The Fear, established them as a band capable of intricate arrangements without losing their street-level grit. A key element of their identity was the involvement of Gary Jennings and Adam Lehan, both of whom would later find fame in the doom metal titans Cathedral. Despite a divisive second album, Obnoxious, and a long hiatus starting in 1991, the band's 2015 reboot led by original vocalist Howard 'H' Smith has reaffirmed their status as cult icons of the genre. They are critically regarded as the 'jokers' of the UK scene, a title they earned through their lyrical wit and high-energy live performances.
