Formed in Paris in 2012 by DJs Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho, Acid Arab emerged from a desire to integrate the complex rhythmic and melodic structures of Arabic music into the framework of Western acid house and techno. Their sound identity is defined by the use of microtonal scales and polyrhythmic superimpositions, often utilizing analog synthesizers to mimic the phrasing of traditional instruments.
The project evolved from a series of compilations on the Versatile label into a full-fledged live act and production powerhouse. They occupy a unique cultural position as mediators between the European electronic underground and the diverse musical traditions of the Maghreb and Middle East. Critically, they are praised for avoiding the pitfalls of 'world music' clichés, instead opting for a gritty, club-ready authenticity. Their influence web connects the pioneering acid house of Chicago to the contemporary electro-dabke movements of the Levant, making them a central fixture in the globalized electronic landscape.
