Intro

Acen is the architect of the frantic, wide-eyed energy that defined the peak of the UK rave era. His music is a dizzying collision of sped-up breakbeats, heavy sub-bass, and a kitchen-sink approach to sampling that pulls from Bond films, sci-fi, and soul. It feels like a beautiful, controlled explosion, capturing the transition from rave's early innocence into the darker, more complex textures of jungle and drum and bass.

What truly sets him apart is his cinematic sensibility. While his peers were often focused purely on the dancefloor, Acen’s tracks like 'Trip II the Moon' feel like miniature movies. He uses sound effects and dramatic orchestral stabs to create a sense of narrative tension, making the eventual drop into a chaotic breakbeat feel like a hard-earned payoff. The production is raw and unpolished in the best way, carrying the authentic grit of early 90s hardware.

For the uninitiated, '75 Minutes' is the definitive document of his sound. It serves as a masterclass in how to manipulate a sampler to create something that is simultaneously aggressive and uplifting. If you want to understand why the UK underground became obsessed with the breakbeat, this is where you start.

Acen Razvi is an English breakbeat hardcore/techno music producer. Acen was known for tracks such as "Close Your Eyes", "Window in the Sky" and "Trip II the Moon" (the latter two both 1992). He worked for the Production House Records stable, which also brought fame to Baby D. He released the album 75 Minutes. He has also collaborated with Baby D's Floyd Dyce to form The House Crew. He is now a filmmaker, specialising in short films under the name Acen Films Limited to be shown at festivals. Besides producing dance music tracks, his aim is to fuse art forms and to introduce pioneering visual and musical perceptions to new audiences.
