Acda en De Munnik

Bittersweet Dutch pop that feels like a long conversation with an old friend. Piano-led melodies and rich harmonies for rainy afternoons and quiet reflection.

Intro

Acda en De Munnik create music that feels like the sonic equivalent of a warm coat on a drizzly Dutch afternoon. Their sound is built on the foundation of two voices that shouldn't work together but do: one slightly raspy and grounded, the other clear and melodic. It is Nederpop at its most literate, blending the intimacy of a small theater with the anthemic reach of a stadium singalong.

What truly sets them apart is their background in cabaret. Their songs aren't just verses and choruses; they are short stories filled with specific details about Amsterdam streets, missed opportunities, and the quiet beauty of ordinary life. The arrangements often center on a melancholic piano or a strummed acoustic guitar, occasionally swelling into lush, orchestral pop that never loses its human touch.

Start with their self-titled debut or 'Groeten uit Maaiveld' to hear the definitive sound of late-90s and early-2000s Netherlands. These albums contain the hits that have become part of the Dutch cultural DNA, offering a perfect entry point into their world of poetic realism and bittersweet harmony.

Acda en De Munnik (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑɡdaː ʔɛn də ˈmʏnɪk]) is a Dutch cabaret and musical duo from Amsterdam, consisting of Thomas Acda and Paul de Munnik. The duo's first three albums, which produced some of their most popular songs such as "Als het vuur gedood is", "Niet of nooit geweest" and "Het regent zonnestralen", originated as music for their stage productions. In the late 1990s, the duo formed the supergroup De Poema's with fellow Dutch band Van Dik Hout. In 2004, the duo released the rock opera Ren Lenny Ren, which they starred in. The duo disbanded in 2015 before returning in 2023 with six sold-out reunion concerts at the Ziggo Dome.
