Aborted

Formed in Belgium in 1995, Aborted has evolved from a traditional brutal death metal outfit into one of the most influential deathgrind and modern deathcore acts in the world. Led by founding vocalist Sven de Caluwé, the band has maintained a prolific output despite frequent lineup changes, eventually becoming an international collective.

Their early work, particularly 'The Purity of Perversion', was deeply rooted in the goregrind aesthetic pioneered by Carcass, but they achieved critical acclaim with 2003's 'Goremageddon', which introduced a level of technicality and melodic sensibility that would define their middle period. In the 2010s and 2020s, the band embraced a more 'hi-fi' production style, incorporating elements of deathcore and blackened atmosphere without sacrificing their signature speed. They are widely respected for their 'surgical' precision, particularly in the percussion department, and their consistent use of horror cinema as a thematic foundation. They occupy a unique space in the metal ecosystem, appealing equally to old-school death metal purists and younger fans of technical extreme metal.
