A Frames

A Frames emerged from the Seattle underground in the late 1990s, evolving from an earlier project called Bend Sinister. Comprised of Erin Sullivan, Min Yee, and Lars Finberg, the trio carved out a niche within the noise rock and art-punk scenes by blending the aggressive spirit of 60s garage rock with the cold, mechanical precision of post-punk.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of pounding, repetitive drumming and a 'monotone' vocal style that emphasizes a bleak, detached perspective on modern life. Culturally, they represent a bridge between the raw intensity of 80s noise rock (citing influences like Cows and Stick Men With Ray Guns) and the more cerebral, experimental indie rock of the 2000s. After releasing several influential records on their own Dragnet label and S-S Records, they signed to Sub Pop for the release of 'Black Forest' in 2005. The band is highly regarded by critics for their uncompromising aesthetic and their ability to make repetitive, abrasive music feel deeply engaging through sheer rhythmic force and structural discipline.
