Wiseguy & Hollywoord

Released in 2000, Wiseguy & Hollywood serves as a foundational document for the Danish collective Blue Foundation. While the group would later achieve international fame for their ethereal contributions to film soundtracks, this early release is firmly entrenched in the trip-hop and downtempo movements of the late 90s. The album functions more like a beat-tape or a collaborative EP, featuring numerous remixes and 'beats' that highlight the group's production prowess and their connection to the hip-hop underground. It features contributions from The Prunes and Future 3, further cementing its status as a collaborative snapshot of the Copenhagen electronic scene at the turn of the millennium. Sonically, it is much more rhythmic and sample-focused than their later shoegaze-influenced material, relying on heavy bass, turntable scratching, and jazz-inflected loops to create a noir-ish, urban atmosphere.
