Winter

Released in March 2014, Winter is the debut EP from Australian artist Tim Bettinson, performing as Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Recorded when Bettinson was just 17, the project immediately garnered international attention for its sophisticated blend of Bon Iver-esque indie folk and the expansive, electronic textures of artists like Sigur Rós. The EP is characterized by its 'glacial' sound, achieved through heavy use of digital reverb, layered vocal harmonies, and slow-tempo electronic percussion. Despite its bedroom-production origins, the record possesses a cinematic scale that feels much larger than its humble beginnings. It served as a pivotal release in the mid-2010s 'indietronica' movement, bridging the gap between singer-songwriter intimacy and ambient electronic exploration.
