White Chalk

Released in 2007, White Chalk represents the most dramatic sonic departure in PJ Harvey's career. Moving away from the blues-rock of 'Uh Huh Her', Harvey composed the album primarily on piano, an instrument she was not formally trained in. This 'unlearned' approach resulted in a unique, minimalist harmonic language characterized by simple, repetitive, and often unsettling motifs.
