Released in 2019, 'Weather' is the fifth studio album by Scott Hansen's Tycho project and marks the most significant stylistic departure in his career. After completing a trilogy of highly successful instrumental albums (Dive, Awake, and Epoch), Hansen sought to incorporate the 'most organic instrument' - the human voice. Collaborating closely with vocalist Saint Sinner, the album moves away from the sprawling, post-rock-influenced structures of his previous work toward more concise, verse-chorus arrangements. Despite the shift to a vocal-forward sound, the album retains Hansen's signature use of vintage hardware, including the Minimoog and various Oberheim synthesizers, processed through tape for a characteristic warmth. The album was well-received by critics, notably earning a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, and is often cited as a successful example of an ambient artist evolving into a more traditional songwriting format without losing their sonic identity.
