We Don't Eat

Released in late 2011, the We Don't Eat EP served as a bridge between James Vincent McMorrow's debut album, Early in the Morning, and his later electronic explorations. The centerpiece of the release is the title track, a haunting folk-soul hybrid that showcases his signature high-register vocals. However, the EP gained significant cultural traction due to his transformative cover of Steve Winwood's 'Higher Love.' By stripping the synth-pop anthem down to a solitary piano ballad, McMorrow created a definitive 'sad cover' that became a staple in television dramas and film trailers. The EP also includes an acoustic version of the title track, further emphasizing the 'cabin-in-the-woods' recording aesthetic he was known for at the time.
