Water for Your Soul

Released in 2015, Water for Your Soul represents Joss Stone's most significant stylistic pivot, moving away from the vintage R&B of her 'Soul Sessions' era into a self-produced exploration of reggae and world music. Co-produced with Damian Marley and Nitin Sawhney, the album was four years in the making and reflects Stone's personal travels and musical curiosities. The record is notable for its heavy use of dub techniques, featuring several 'Dub' versions of tracks that emphasize the rhythmic architecture over the vocals. Despite the shift in genre, Stone's signature raspy delivery remains the focal point, though it is often more restrained and atmospheric than on previous efforts. The album was released on her own label, Stone'd Records, marking a period of total creative independence. It received praise for its ambitious scope and the natural chemistry between Stone's soul sensibilities and the Jamaican riddims that dominate the tracklist.
