“Watch Out!”

Released in 2004, Watch Out! is the sophomore effort from St. Catharines, Ontario's Alexisonfire and represents their commercial and creative breakthrough. Eschewing the industry pressure to work with a high-profile producer in a major studio, the band opted to record with Julius Butty in his home studio near Hamilton. This decision resulted in a distinctive, 'analog-warmth' production style that set them apart from the increasingly polished screamo scene. Sonically, the album expanded on the atmospheric foundations of their debut's closer, 'Pulmonary Archery,' incorporating influences from post-rock and ambient acts like Mogwai. The record is notable for its sophisticated three-vocalist dynamic: George Pettit’s harsh vocals, Dallas Green’s melodic leads, and Wade MacNeil’s gritty mid-range. Certified Platinum in Canada, it solidified the band's status as leaders of the 'Screamo' movement while simultaneously transcending the genre's limitations through complex songwriting and existential lyrical themes.
