Warriors

Released in 1983, Warriors marks a pivotal stylistic shift for Gary Numan, moving away from the pure synth-pop of 'The Pleasure Principle' toward a sophisticated blend of jazz-inflected funk and atmospheric new wave. This was Numan's final album for Beggars Banquet and features a notable collaboration with fretless bass virtuoso Pino Palladino, whose distinctive playing style defines the record's sonic architecture. The production, handled by Numan and Bill Nelson (of Be-Bop Deluxe), is characterized by its dense layering and 'wet' mix, utilizing heavy reverb to create a cavernous, nocturnal environment.
