Visions of Us on the Land

Visions of Us on the Land (2016) serves as the ambitious conclusion to Damien Jurado's 'Maraqopa' trilogy, following 2012's Maraqopa and 2014's Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son. Recorded with the late Richard Swift at his National Freedom studio, the album represents the peak of their collaborative 'psychedelic folk' sound. The record is a conceptual journey through a symbolic landscape, populated by characters and locations that exist in a state of spiritual limbo. Sonically, it is defined by Swift's signature production: heavy tape saturation, 'floppy' drum sounds, and cavernous reverb that gives the folk arrangements an otherworldly, cinematic scale. While Jurado's earlier work was rooted in starker realism, this album fully embraces surrealism and myth-making.
