UFO EP

Released in late 2006, the UFO EP served as the definitive introduction to Newton Faulkner's unique 'percussive folk' style. While Faulkner would later achieve massive commercial success with 'Hand Built by Robots', this EP represents his most essential and minimalist form. The recording highlights his training under guitar virtuoso Eric Roche, specifically his ability to play lead, bass, and percussion simultaneously on a single acoustic instrument. The tracklist includes early versions of songs that would become staples of his live set, most notably his cover of Massive Attack's 'Teardrop'. This cover became a calling card for Faulkner, demonstrating his ability to translate complex electronic arrangements into organic, fingerstyle performances. Critically, the EP was praised for its technical innovation without sacrificing the soulful, accessible songwriting that would eventually make him a fixture of the UK acoustic boom of the mid-2000s.
