Recorded in February 1974 for Impulse!, Treasure Island serves as a pivotal document of Keith Jarrett's 'American Quartet' featuring Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian. Unlike the more abrasive or sprawling works of this lineup, Treasure Island is noted for its concision and melodic accessibility. The album incorporates elements of gospel, country-blues, and folk, particularly on tracks like 'The Rich (And the Poor)'.
