Released in 2019, Therapy is a six-track EP that marks a significant thematic shift for Ben Cooper (Radical Face). After spending nearly a decade on 'The Family Tree' trilogy - a massive conceptual project involving fictional genealogies - Cooper turned his lens inward to document his own experiences with therapy and mental health. Sonically, the EP retains his signature 'bedroom production' ethos, characterized by meticulous layering and the use of non-traditional percussion. However, Therapy places a much stronger emphasis on the piano as the lead melodic instrument compared to the guitar-heavy arrangements of his earlier work. The EP was praised by fans for its transparency and for maintaining Cooper's high standard of 'handmade' sound despite the more modern, personal subject matter. It serves as a bridge between his historical storytelling era and his more abstract, experimental later works.
