The Waste Lands

Released in 1992, The Waste Lands is the eighth studio album by Venom and marks the final recording of the Tony 'Demolition Man' Dolan era. Following the more experimental 'Prime Evil' and 'Temples of Ice', this record sees the band (featuring Dolan, Mantas, and Abaddon) refining their sound into a more professional, studio-polished version of thrash and heavy metal. Originally titled 'Kissing the Beast', the album's final title was inspired by the cover art. Sonically, it is a significant departure from the lo-fi 'Black Metal' aesthetic, featuring more complex arrangements and even subtle synthesizer use. While it lacked the cultural impact of their early 80s output, it is praised by fans for its technical proficiency and Dolan's powerful vocal performance. It serves as a bridge between the band's extreme metal origins and the more traditional heavy metal sounds of the early 90s before the classic lineup reunited in 1995.
