The Third Hand

Released in 2007, The Third Hand represents the most significant stylistic departure in RJD2's career. Moving away from the sample-heavy 'instrumental hip-hop' blueprint of Deadringer, RJ Krohn opted to perform nearly every instrument himself, including lead vocals. This shift toward indie pop and synth-pop was polarizing at the time, as it eschewed the 'dusty soul' aesthetic for a cleaner, more melodic approach influenced by 60s psychedelia and 70s soft rock.
