Released in 2013, The Random represents the peak of Moonbeam's ability to synthesize disparate electronic styles into a cohesive aesthetic. The album is structured as a comprehensive showcase, featuring original vocal versions followed by 'Club Mix' reinterpretations that reveal the duo's roots in the Russian underground techno scene. Sonically, the album leans heavily into progressive house and breaks, departing from the more rigid trance structures of their earlier work. It was released during a period when the 'trouse' (trance-house) sound was dominant, yet Moonbeam stood apart by maintaining a darker, more cinematic edge influenced by ambient techno and downtempo. The inclusion of tracks like 'Heavy Rain' and 'Sun Went Down' highlights their mastery of atmosphere, using field-recording-like textures and wide stereo imaging to create a sense of physical space.
