The Jazz Trio EP

Released in early 2023, The Jazz Trio EP marks a significant stylistic pivot for Piet Blank and Jaspa Jones. Known primarily as pioneers of the German trance and Balearic chillout scenes, the duo used this four-track collection to reinterpret some of their most recognizable melodies through the lens of a traditional acoustic jazz trio (piano, upright bass, and drums). This project follows their long-standing 'Relax' series but abandons digital production entirely in favor of a live, organic feel. The recording quality is exceptionally high-fidelity, emphasizing the tactile nature of the instruments: the click of the bass strings, the breath of the room, and the delicate texture of brushes on a snare drum. While the compositions are rooted in their electronic catalog, the arrangements draw heavily from the 'cool jazz' school of the 1950s, prioritizing mood and atmosphere over technical virtuosity. It serves as both a 'best-of' in a new skin and a standalone piece of sophisticated lounge music.
