Supercharger

Released in September 2001, Supercharger represents the apex of Machine Head's experimentation with the nu-metal and alternative metal sounds of the turn of the millennium. Following the commercial success of The Burning Red, this album doubled down on syncopated grooves, rap-influenced vocal cadences, and industrial textures. It was the final album to feature guitarist Ahrue Luster, whose influence is felt in the more melodic and experimental guitar work. The album's legacy was significantly impacted by its release date; the lead single 'Crashing Around You' featured burning buildings in its music video and was pulled from MTV rotation following the 9/11 attacks, severely crippling the album's promotion. Sonically, it is a departure from the band's thrash roots, favoring a 'bounce' and rhythmic intensity that aligned them with the Ozzfest-era zeitgeist. Despite its initial commercial struggle, it remains a cult favorite for its high-energy production and raw, urban-focused lyricism.
