A hour-long meditation where brittle acoustic melodies slowly dissolve into a vast, shimmering haze of drone and electronic texture.
September 23, 2005 · Hydra Head Records
Sun Baked Snow Cave is an exercise in extreme patience and sonic evolution. Unlike the high-decibel sludge Boris is often associated with, this collaboration with Merzbow finds both artists in a state of uncharacteristic restraint. The album functions as a single, hour-long arc that begins with the skeletal, dry sound of an acoustic guitar. It feels like a parched landscape, dusty and still, before the 'snow' begins to fall in the form of shimmering electronic textures and low-frequency drones. It is a beautiful, if occasionally unsettling, transformation of space.
