Sub-Basement

Sub-Basement represents a pivotal and dark chapter in the Pentagram saga. Following the template of its predecessor, Review Your Choices, the album is a collaboration between founding vocalist Bobby Liebling and multi-instrumentalist Joe Hasselvander. This era of the band is defined by its 'two-man' studio dynamic, which allowed for a singular, focused vision of doom metal that was both more aggressive and more personal than their 1970s or 1980s output. The title is a literal reference to Liebling's living situation in his parents' basement, a fact later immortalized in the documentary Last Days Here. Sonically, the album bridges the gap between vintage 70s hard rock and the more abrasive sludge movements of the early 2000s. It is widely regarded by fans as one of the band's most authentic and harrowing releases, stripped of artifice and focused entirely on the power of the riff and the vulnerability of the vocal performance.
