Still Standing

Released in 1998, Still Standing is the sophomore effort from Goodie Mob and serves as a darker, more polished successor to their debut, Soul Food. While their first album established the 'Dirty South' identity, Still Standing refined it into a sophisticated, psychedelic blend of soul and street-conscious rap. Produced largely by the legendary Organized Noize collective, the album is characterized by its heavy use of live instrumentation, particularly bass and keys, which provides a level of warmth and depth rarely heard in the era's sample-heavy landscape. The album features a pivotal collaboration with Outkast on 'Black Ice (Sky High)', which became a signature track for the entire Dungeon Family movement. Critically, it is often cited as the peak of the group's collective chemistry, balancing CeeLo Green's burgeoning melodic experimentalism with the grounded, gritty lyricism of Big Gipp, T-Mo, and Khujo.
