South Side Slugs

Released in March 2015, South Side Slugs is a seminal project in the career of Kevin Pouya and a foundational text for the South Florida underground rap scene. Following his early collaborations with Robb Bank$ and Sir Michael Rocks, this 18-track effort solidified Pouya's 'Baby Bone' persona, heavily influenced by the flow patterns of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony but recontextualized for a lo-fi, internet-native audience. The production, handled by frequent collaborators like Mikey The Magician, favors a murky, sample-heavy sound that would become the blueprint for the 'SoundCloud Rap' explosion. Critically, the album is noted for its high-speed 'chopper' delivery, which Pouya uses to navigate themes of mental health, local loyalty, and the pressures of sudden underground fame.
