RYTME

Released in May 2020, RYTME (Norwegian for 'Rhythm') serves as a concise manifesto of Matoma's evolving sound. While he rose to fame as a pioneer of tropical house, this EP sees him integrating more diverse influences, including disco-funk basslines and anthemic pop structures. The project features collaborations with artists like Brando and Anna Clendening, highlighting Matoma's role as a producer-curator who can tailor his bright, melodic style to suit various vocalists. Sonically, the EP is characterized by its use of major-key progressions, lush synth pads, and his trademark classical piano flourishes. It arrived during a global period of isolation, offering a stark, optimistic contrast to the cultural climate of the time.
