Resurrection

Released in 2000, Resurrection marks a significant sonic update for Venom, featuring the return of founding member Cronos alongside Mantas and drummer Antton. This lineup moved away from the lo-fi, 'black metal' aesthetic of the early 80s in favor of a robust, thrash-oriented production style typical of the turn-of-the-century metal scene. The album is characterized by its heavy use of double-kick drumming and a much thicker, more compressed guitar mix than seen on classics like Black Metal or Welcome to Hell. Lyrically, it remains steadfast in its anti-religious and occult themes, as evidenced by tracks like 'War Against Christ' and 'Black Flame (of Satan)'. While it polarized some purists who missed the band's original 'sloppy' charm, it was largely seen as a powerful comeback that proved Venom could compete with the technical intensity of modern extreme metal acts.
