Released in 2004, Prophecy marks a pivotal moment in Soulfly's discography, characterized by Max Cavalera's 'fluid musical tribe' philosophy. After disbanding the previous lineup, Cavalera recruited Marc Rizzo (whose lead work would define the band's sound for nearly two decades) and legendary bassist David Ellefson. The album is most notable for its deep dive into Serbian musical traditions, recorded on-site with local musicians and Eyesburn. This 'nomadic' approach resulted in a unique sonic palette featuring sheepskin bagpipes, traditional flutes, and reggae-dub influences on tracks like 'Moses'. Critically, the album was seen as a return to form, recapturing the experimental spirit of Sepultura's Roots while pushing into new territory.
