Postcards (From Chicago)

Released in 2019, Postcards (From Chicago) is a conceptual EP where Matt Nathanson pays homage to the musical heritage of Chicago. Rather than a standard covers project, Nathanson reimagines tracks by artists with strong ties to the city, including Chance the Rapper, Fall Out Boy, and Richard Marx. This release follows his 2018 full-length 'Sings His Sad Heart' and continues his exploration of more stripped-back, folk-oriented arrangements. The recording is notably sparse, focusing on acoustic guitar, light percussion, and piano, which allows Nathanson's interpretive vocal style to take center stage. Critics noted the album's ability to find the 'folk heart' in unexpected places, particularly in his rendition of 'Same Drugs.'
