OnlySee

Released in December 1997, OnlySee serves as the solo debut for Sia Furler, recorded shortly after her departure from the Adelaide acid-jazz collective Crisp. Produced by Jesse Flavell and released on the boutique Flavoured Records label, the album is a quintessential artifact of the late-90s downtempo movement. Unlike her later work, which utilizes massive dynamic shifts and digital polish, OnlySee is built on a foundation of trip-hop breakbeats, jazz basslines, and organic instrumentation. The album features a more restrained vocal approach, showcasing Sia's ability to navigate complex rhythmic pockets without the need for the 'belting' style she would later perfect. Notably, the track 'Soon' was later re-imagined as 'Sober and Unkissed' for her follow-up album, Healing Is Difficult. Currently out of print and considered a collector's item, OnlySee stands as a vital bridge between the 90s underground electronic scene and the mainstream pop world.
