Old Hands

Released in 2003, Old Hands represents a unique pivot in the Yonder Mountain String Band discography. Rather than focusing on their own compositions or their reputation for high-octane live improvisation, the band dedicated this entire studio project to the songs of Benny Galloway. Galloway, a long-time collaborator and mentor figure in the Colorado acoustic scene, provides the lyrical backbone for the album and performs alongside the band. The recording sessions were bolstered by an impressive roster of guest musicians, including Jerry Douglas, Darol Anger, and Tim O'Brien, effectively bridging the gap between the 'jam-grass' movement and the traditional bluegrass establishment.
