Released in 1989, Mosaïque solidified the Gipsy Kings' position as the premier global ambassadors of rumba flamenca. Following the massive success of their self-titled predecessor, this album refined their signature sound: a dense, percussive layer of nylon-string guitars backed by light percussion and passionate, gravelly vocals. The album is notable for its international crossover appeal, particularly through the hit cover of Domenico Modugno's 'Volare', which reimagined the Italian classic through a Gitano lens. Recording variations exist between the European and North American releases, with tracks like 'Bossamba' and 'Niña Morena' being swapped, and different takes of 'Caminando por la calle' appearing across versions.
