Released in 1999, Molesting the Decapitated is widely regarded as the foundational text of the 'Slamming Brutal Death Metal' subgenre. While death metal had been pushing boundaries for a decade, Devourment shifted the focus away from the technical wizardry of the Florida scene toward a more rhythmic, mid-tempo approach centered on the 'slam' - a chromatic, palm-muted breakdown.
