Masterplan

Released in May 2019, Masterplan serves as a foundational blueprint for Hitkidd's signature 'Memphis Trap' sound. While the artist would later achieve massive mainstream success with viral hits, this album captures him in a more experimental and raw phase. The project is heavily influenced by the 1990s Three 6 Mafia era, utilizing lo-fi aesthetics, haunting synth loops, and the iconic Memphis cowbell. However, Hitkidd updates this template with extreme side-chain compression and modern trap percussion. The album is relatively short at eight tracks, functioning as a high-intensity suite rather than a sprawling epic. Critical reception among underground hip-hop circles highlighted its successful bridge between nostalgic crunk and contemporary phonk. It stands as a pivotal moment in the late-2010s Memphis rap resurgence, proving that the city's dark, aggressive sonic palette remained relevant and potent for a new generation of listeners.
