Live from South Channel Island

Recorded on March 10, 2021, Live from South Channel Island captures Mildlife performing a live concert on an artificial island in Victoria, Australia. The island, which hosts an abandoned 19th-century fort and serves as a breeding ground for the white-faced storm-petrel, provides a unique acoustic and atmospheric backdrop for the performance. The project was captured both as a motion picture and a live album, showcasing the band's ability to translate their intricate studio arrangements into expansive, improvisational live jams. Musically, the album bridges the gap between classic 1970s jazz-rock fusion and modern space disco, characterized by prominent flute melodies, vintage synthesizer textures, and tight, repetitive rhythm sections. The release also carries a respectful acknowledgment of the Boonwurrung people of the Greater Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land and waterways where the performance took place.
