It’s About Time

Released in October 1992, SWV's debut album 'It’s About Time' became a cornerstone of the New Jack Swing and Hip-Hop Soul movements. Produced largely by Brian Alexander Morgan, the album showcased the trio's ability to blend sophisticated gospel harmonies with the rugged production styles popularized by Teddy Riley and Mary J. Blige. The album's success was propelled by a string of massive singles, including 'Right Here', 'I'm So Into You', and the iconic ballad 'Weak', which spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Critically, the album was praised for its vocal technicality and its successful integration of hip-hop elements without sacrificing melodic integrity. It established Coko as one of the premier vocalists of her generation and proved that girl groups could be both commercially dominant and artistically credible in the hip-hop era.
