Hourglass

Released in 1994, Hourglass marked America's first studio album in ten years, ending the longest gap in their discography. After the synth-heavy experimentation of 1984's Perspective, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell returned to their folk-rock roots, re-establishing the 'H' title tradition that began with Homecoming. The album was produced with a focus on digital clarity, giving their signature harmonies a pristine, modern edge. Notable contributions came from Bill Mumy, whose co-writing adds a slightly more contemporary lyrical depth to tracks like 'Sleeper Train.' While it didn't achieve the commercial heights of their 1970s output, the album was well-received by fans for its return to the band's core aesthetic. It notably includes a re-recording of 'You Can Do Magic,' bridging their eighties success with their nineties revival.
