GRLPWR EP

Released in late 2013, GRLPWR EP serves as the bridge between the early 2010s vaporwave/internet-art movement and the aggressive digital hardcore that Machine Girl would later perfect. While later albums like WLFGRL would lean into a more sinister, wolf-themed aggression, GRLPWR is lighter, more colorful, and heavily indebted to the Chicago footwork scene. The track 'Krystle' became an underground anthem, famously sampling 'Krystle' by the 80s R&B group The Renegades, turning a soulful melody into a frantic, glitch-heavy workout. This EP established Machine Girl's signature ability to take recognizable pop fragments and subject them to extreme rhythmic stress. Critically, it is viewed as a seminal release in the 'internet-core' canon, predating the hyperpop explosion while sharing its DNA of high-speed sampling and genre-blurring. It remains a fan favorite for its balance of melodic accessibility and technical percussion.
