Gravity

Gravity marks the most significant stylistic departure in Bullet for My Valentine's discography. Released in 2018, it saw the band move away from their signature melodic metalcore and thrash roots toward an alternative metal sound heavily influenced by nu-metal and electronic rock. This was the first album to feature drummer Jason Bowld and bassist Jamie Mathias as full contributors, and their presence is felt in the more groove-oriented, rhythmic approach. The recording process emphasized 'less is more,' with Matt Tuck intentionally stripping back the complex guitar work to focus on song structure and vocal melody. Critically, the album was a lightning rod for controversy; while some praised the catchy songwriting and modern production, others - most notably MetalSucks - lambasted the shift toward a 'radio rock' sound. Despite the backlash from purists, the album represents a brave, calculated risk to evolve into a contemporary arena-rock act.
