Gnosis represents a significant hardening of the Russian Circles sound, trading some of their previous cinematic sprawl for a more concentrated, visceral punch. The album feels like a physical weight, anchored by the massive room sound of Dave Turncrantz's drums recorded at Electrical Audio. It is an album of extreme contrasts: one moment you are floating in a 100-second DADGAD-tuned lullaby that feels like ancient folk music, and the next you are being pulverized by B-standard blackened thrash riffs. The use of the Boss Metal Zone pedal provides a specific, biting silicon-driven distortion that cuts through the dense layers of Moog Taurus synths and baritone bass.

Moments Worth Listening For
the jarring transition from the delicate DADGAD lullaby of Ó Braonáin into the blackened thrash weight of Vlastimil
the title track where layered guitar loops begin to rub in a gnarly dissonant way against the steady drum pulse
the mid point of a track where the Moog Taurus synth and bass guitar lock into a singular floor shaking frequency
